How do I add Evaluators to my course?
Adding and removing Evaluators. Instructors should add and remove Evaluators as needed for an evaluation. While an evaluator is active in the Canvas course they will receive all notifications from the course. They may request that you remove them as soon as they have completed the evaluation or you may remove them at a prearrange time.
Course Invitations
When an enrollment is manually added to a course, Canvas generates a course invitation. The user must accept the course invitation to participate in the course. Until the user accepts the course invitation, the user's status will display as pending. It is recommended that Evaluators not accept the invitation until they are ready to evaluate the course and so the status will display as pending until they start their evaluation.
Roles
It is recommended that you add your evaluator using the “Evaluator” role. The advantage of adding someone as an “Evaluator” is that they can review all the student interactions but will be unable to edit any of your course content. You also have the option of adding them as a teacher. Please do not use any other roles to add an Evaluator.

In Course Navigation, click the People link.

Click the Add People button.

To add a user, you can search for users with email address.

By default, the search field is set to search by email address [1]. In the text field [2], enter the email address for the user.

In the Role drop-down menu [1], assign the user(s) the “Evaluators” role for the course.
Do not use drop-down menu [2], leave the default
Do not use the interact checkbox [3].
Click the Next button [4].

If Canvas finds an existing user, you can confirm the user before adding the user to the course [1].
When you are ready, click the Add Users button [2].
If Canvas did not find your intended user, you can click the Start Over button [3].

To try a new search, click the Back button. Contact your Instructional Tech if you need assistance.

Until the user accepts the course invitation, the user's status will display as pending. If necessary, you may be able to edit a user's role in Canvas. Note: It could take up to 24 hours for users to receive their invitations.


In the search field [1], search for the name of the user. You can also filter users by role in the Roles drop-down menu [2].
Remove User
Click the user's Settings icon [1], then select the Remove From Course link [2].

Click the OK button.
Requesting to Add a Faculty Member to your course
Faculty may request Distance Education staff to add an instructor into their course by submitting a help ticket to Canvas/Online Learning through this system.
Go to Report an Issue > Address it to Canvas/Online Learning > and add your request.
Your request should include:
- First and last name of the instructor you want to add
- The course and section ID (or the 5-digit course ID found in the URL of your canvas shell)
- The role you want the instructor to be (Evaluator / Teacher)
- Any supporting documentation regarding your evaluation, or other supporting documentation if it is for a different reason.
Instructors that are the evaluator are not able to request access to a faculty member's course and only the instructor who is assigned as the teacher of the course can request to add someone.
